Simeona Mamo is a dedicated Astronomy Education Officer at The Astronomical Society of Malta and a Research Support Officer at the University of Malta, Faculty of Education. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Astronomy and Space Sciences from Ankara University, and a second master’s in Physics Education from Hacettepe University. Her work focuses on promoting astronomy education through both formal and informal learning. She has led numerous teacher training programs, developed innovative learning materials, and published in academic journals. Her research includes the Turkish adaptation of the TOAST and STEAM-based astronomy activities using AI tools. Simeona is the manager of international projects partnered by the University of Malta, such as the Road-STEAMer Horizon and the Erasmus ACT-AI Teacher Academy. As National Astronomy Education Coordinator (NAEC) chair for Malta, she collaborates with the IAU and local institutions to bridge astronomy research and classroom learning. Her efforts continue to inspire teachers and students to explore astronomy through hands-on and digital learning experiences.
Simeona maintains strong connections with key educational institutions, including the Institute of Space Sciences and Astronomy at the University of Malta and the Ministry of Education. She actively collaborates with the IAU Office for Astronomy Outreach, ensuring that Maltese teachers and students benefit from global astronomy education initiatives. As the National Astronomy Education Coordinator (NAEC) Malta chair, she aims to leverage her expertise and international network to enhance astronomy education in Malta, bridging the gap between professional astronomy research and classroom education (teachers & students). Through her leadership and dedication, she continues to make astronomy more accessible and engaging for all learners.
