Description: Eine irreguläre Galaxie ist eine Art von Galaxie mit wenig oder keiner Symmetrie, d.h. sie hat eine verzerrte Morphologie oder Form. Solche Galaxien sind in der Regel kleiner als Spiralgalaxien und elliptische Galaxien und enthalten oft erhebliche Mengen an Gas für Sternentstehung. Die Große und die Kleine Magellansche Wolke sind irreguläre Galaxien, die unserer Milchstraße relativ nahe sind (ca. 160.000 Lichtjahre bzw. 200.000 Lichtjahre). Die Magellanschen Wolken können von der südlichen Hemisphäre der Erde aus mit bloßem Auge beobachtet werden.
