Glossary term: Ionosfera

Also known as Ionósfera

Description: La ionosfera es una parte de la atmósfera (por encima de unos 80 kilómetros). Contiene una alta concentración de iones debido a la radiación de alta energía que la Tierra recibe del Sol, la cual descompone las moléculas en átomos y, a su vez, los átomos en iones y electrones. La presencia de electrones libres hace que esta región de la atmósfera sea un buen conductor de la electricidad. Por ello, la ionosfera es capaz de reflejar las ondas de radio en determinadas longitudes de onda.
