Glossary term: Ionosfera

Description: A ionosfera é uma parte da atmosfera (acima de cerca de 80 quilômetros). Ela contém uma alta concentração de íons devido à parte de alta energia da radiação que a Terra recebe do Sol, que quebra as moléculas em átomos e, em seguida, os átomos em íons e elétrons. A presença de elétrons livres faz com que essa região da atmosfera seja uma boma condutora de eletricidade. Dessa forma, a ionosfera é capaz de refletir ondas de rádio em determinados comprimentos de onda.
