Description: El universo observable se refiere a la parte del Universo que podemos ver, que es una esfera con nosotros en el centro. El radio del universo observable viene determinado por la distancia que la luz ha podido recorrer hacia nosotros desde el inicio del Universo. Las regiones situadas en el límite del universo observable están tan lejos que su luz apenas ha tenido tiempo de llegar hasta nosotros en los últimos 14 000 millones de años; en otras palabras: a lo largo de la edad del Universo.

Las regiones más lejanas del Universo que podemos ver se encuentran ahora a más de 40 000 millones de años luz de distancia. Esto se debe a que el Universo se ha expandido mucho desde que se emitió la luz que nos llega desde esas regiones. La luz procedente de objetos situados fuera del universo observable aún no ha tenido tiempo suficiente para llegar hasta nosotros.

Cuanto más esperamos, más tiempo tiene la luz para llegar hasta nosotros y más se expande el universo observable. Otros observadores en el cosmos tienen sus propios universos observables: una esfera con ellos en el centro, cuyo radio es la mayor distancia a la que la luz de otras regiones ha tenido tiempo de llegar hasta ellos.
