Description: La teoría del Big Bang es la explicación básica de las etapas evolutivas del Universo. En su forma más simple, esta teoría nos da una idea del origen del Universo desde su fase inicial caliente y densa, hasta su expansión durante los siguientes 13,800 millones de años, para convertirse en el Universo que conocemos hoy. El Diagrama de Hubble es la prueba de esta expansión.

Dado que nuestras herramientas actuales no permiten a los astrónomos retroceder directamente hasta el comienzo del Universo, gran parte de lo que entendemos sobre la teoría del Big Bang nos llega a partir de modelos y teorías matemáticas. Sin embargo, los astrónomos pueden estudiar los elementos químicos producidos durante los pocos minutos calientes posteriores al Big Bang (lo que se conoce como Nucleosíntesis del Big Bang). También pueden estudiar el resplandor que dejó el Big Bang, un fenómeno conocido como fondo cósmico de microondas.
