Description: 1나노미터는 10억분의 1미터를 의미하며, 기호는 nm으로 표기합니다. 이 단위는 매우 작기 때문에 우리 일상에서 접하는 물체와 비교하면 그 차이를 실감할 수 있습니다. 예를 들어 사람의 머리카락 굵기는 약 80,000에서 100,000나노미터 정도로, 종이 한 장의 두께와 비슷합니다. 인간의 DNA 한 가닥의 지름은 약 2.5나노미터에 불과하며, 물 분자의 지름은 1나노미터보다 작습니다.

가시광선의 파장은 나노미터 단위로 측정할 수 있는데, 사람의 눈은 대략 380나노미터(보라색 빛)에서 750나노미터(빨간색 빛) 사이의 파장을 가진 빛을 볼 수 있습니다.
