Glossary term: Nanômetro
Description: Um nanômetro é um bilionésimo de metro. Seu símbolo é nm. Um fio de cabelo humano tem aproximadamente 80.000–100.000 nm de largura, quase a mesma espessura de uma folha de papel. Um fio de DNA humano tem cerca de 2,5 nm de diâmetro. Uma molécula de água mede menos de 1 nm de diâmetro. O comprimento de onda da luz visível pode ser medido em nm. Em geral, o olho humano consegue detectar luz com comprimentos de onda entre cerca de 380 nm (violeta) e 750 nm (vermelho).
