Ein Strang menschlicher DNA hat einen Durchmesser von etwa 2,5 nm. Ein Wassermolekül hat einen Durchmesser von weniger als 1 nm. Die Wellenlänge des sichtbaren Lichts kann in Nanometern gemessen werden. In der Regel kann das menschliche Auge Licht mit Wellenlängen zwischen etwa 380 nm (violett) und 750 nm (rot) wahrnehmen.
