Glossary term: Nanómetro

Description: Un nanómetro es la milmillonésima parte de un metro. Su símbolo es nm. Un cabello humano tiene un grosor aproximado de entre 80 000 y 100 000 nm, más o menos el mismo que el de una hoja de papel. Una cadena de ADN humano tiene un diámetro de unos 2.5 nm. Una molécula de agua mide menos de 1 nm de ancho. La longitud de onda de la luz visible se puede medir en nm. Por lo general, el ojo humano puede detectar luz con longitudes de onda comprendidas entre unos 380 nm (violeta) y 750 nm (rojo).
