Description: Um elétron é uma partícula elementar leve com uma unidade de carga elétrica negativa. Toda a matéria que vemos ao nosso redor é composta de átomos, e todos os átomos têm a mesma estrutura básica: um núcleo, pequeno e denso que carrega quase toda a massa do átomo, cercado por elétrons. Os elétrons são descritos e representados como existentes em camadas concêntricas ao redor do núcleo, e a estrutura dessas camadas é responsável pelas formas que um átomo pode se ligar a outros átomos, formando moléculas. Essa é a base física da química. Nas estrelas anãs brancas, as propriedades quânticas dos elétrons fornecem a pressão necessária para impedir que esses remanescentes estelares entrem em colapso sob sua própria gravidade.
