This research investigates storytelling sessions (ST) about the 1504 lunar eclipse at a science communication event and the production of personal meanings, grounded in historical-dialectical materialism. The study analyzes how ST can challenge the ideological views present in science outreach, highlighting the contradictions of the colonial episode and promoting human emancipation. The analysis, based on historical-cultural psychology, reveals the production of heterogeneous meanings from a text by BBC News Brazil. The work concludes that science communication can act both in the reproduction and in the challenging of dominant ideologies.
