John Boisvert
(Slooh)
Slooh is a live space exploration platform giving learners direct access to professional telescopes and satellite imagery. Its Quest framework structures this access into guided inquiry sequences—spanning topics across Earth science and astronomy—that scaffold observation, analysis, and reflection without prior knowledge.
Quests align to major national science frameworks, including NGSS, support learners from primary through post-secondary, and are built with accessibility features, including captions. The Workspace system enables organized, multi-learner participation.
This talk presents Slooh's Quest design principles, shares examples from our curriculum development, and offers guidance for educators seeking to incorporate authentic, real-time telescope observation into their teaching.
Biography:
Dr. John Boisvert has been Slooh's Director of Curriculum for over five years, crafting immersive, curriculum-aligned learning activities in Earth and space science. He brings the universe to life for students by integrating real-time imagery from Slooh’s telescopes in the Canary Islands, Chile, and Australia, and from the Sentinel-2 satellite constellation.
With a masters in physics and a doctorate in astronomy, John’s research interests span exoplanets, galaxy dynamics, and stellar evolution. He has over a decade of experience teaching physics and astronomy in colleges and is fascinated by humanity's mythological connections to the cosmos. He is dedicated to making science accessible, engaging, and fun for learners of all backgrounds.
