Description: Akkretion ist der Prozess, bei dem ein astrophysikalisches Objekt durch seine Anziehungskraft zusätzliche Materie anzieht. Üblicherweise handelt es sich dabei um Gas oder Staub. Akkretion kommt in vielen verschiedenen astronomischen Szenarien vor, darunter (aber nicht nur): Gas, das von einem Schwarzen Loch angezogen wird, Sterne in Doppelsternsystemen, die Materie von ihrem Begleiter aufsammeln, junge Sterne, die Gas von einer sie umgebenden Scheibe ansammeln sowie Galaxien, die Sterne von anderen Galaxien aufsammeln.
