Description: 천문학에서 ‘아폴로(Apollo)’라는 말은 두 가지 의미로 사용됩니다. 첫 번째 의미는 인류가 처음으로 달에 착륙한 NASA의 우주 탐사 계획인 ‘아폴로 프로그램(Apollo Program)’을 가리킵니다. 이 프로그램은 대부분 새턴 V 로켓을 이용해 추진되었으며, 아폴로 4호부터 17호까지 총 14번의 미션이 발사되었습니다. 그중 11번은 유인 미션이었고, 9번이 달로 향했으며, 6번이 실제로 달 착륙에 성공했습니다. 나머지 3번은 달 궤도만 돌고 귀환했습니다.

두 번째 의미의 아폴로는 지구 근처를 지나는 소행성 그룹을 말합니다. 이 이름은 소행성 (1862) 아폴로에서 따온 것입니다. 아폴로 소행성은 궤도의 긴반지름이 1천문단위(AU)보다 크고, 근일점(태양에 가장 가까운 지점)이 1AU보다 작은 것이 특징입니다. 즉, 이 소행성들은 태양을 공전하는 동안 지구 궤도 안쪽과 바깥쪽을 오가지만, 실제로 지구와 충돌하거나 매우 근접하는 일은 거의 없습니다.
