Description: Energia é liberada por reações de fusão nuclear no núcleo de uma estrela e, eventualmente, irradiada para o espaço a partir da fotosfera da estrela. Existem várias maneiras pelas quais a energia é transportada do núcleo da estrela para a fotosfera. A zona radiativa, região radiativa ou zona de radiação é a região dentro de uma estrela onde a energia é transportada para fora por meio de radiação, com fótons se espalhando repetidamente pelos núcleos e elétrons, perdendo parte da energia nesse processo, mas também levando à emissão de novos fótons de radiação térmica. Devido à frequência desses espalhamentos, o progresso é lento; em nosso Sol, os fótons levam milhares de anos para atravessar a zona radiativa.

No Sol, a zona radiativa está localizada entre o núcleo e a zona convectiva. Em estrelas mais massivas, o próprio núcleo é convectivo, com a zona radiativa se estendendo do núcleo convectivo até a fotosfera da estrela. Abaixo de 0,3 massas solares, as estrelas não possuem zona radiativa e são inteiramente convectivas.
