Description: تقدم عمليات رصد حركات النجوم والغاز حول مركز مجرة درب التبانة دليلاً غير مباشر على وجود ثقب أسود هائل تبلغ كتلته حوالي 4.5 مليون مرة كتلة الشمس، ويبلغ عرضه حوالي 40 مليون كيلومتر، ويقع على بعد حوالي 27000 سنة ضوئية من الأرض. ساجيتاريوس A* (نجم القوس A) هو المصدر الراديوي المضغوط المرتبط بالثقب الأسود فائق الكتلة. وقد تم رصده في مجموعة من الأطوال الموجية، وعلى الأخص في المدى الراديوي. يعود سبب تسمية القوس بهذا الاسم إلى أنه يقع في كوكبة القوس كما هو مرصود من الأرض؛ أما حرف أ فلأنه ألمع وأول مصدر راديوي خارج المجموعة الشمسية يُكتشف في الكوكبة؛ أما علامة النجمة فلأنه في الفيزياء يُشار إلى الذرات في الحالات المثارة بعلامة *، وكان القوس أ* اكتشافاً مثيراً.
في عام 2022، أصدرت مجموعة تلسكوب أفق الحدث أول صورة على الإطلاق لصورة ظلية ("ظل") الثقب الأسود المرتبط بكوكبة القوس أ*.
