Description: Dieser Zweig der Astronomie widmet sich der Untersuchung von Quellen hochenergetischer geladener Teilchen im Universum. So können Astronomen die Eigenschaften dieser Quellen der kosmischen Strahlung und verschiedene andere damit verbundene Aspekte wie Magnetfelder im Universum untersuchen. Die kosmische Strahlung kann mit ähnlichen Methoden wie in der Teilchenphysik beobachtet werden, oder indem man nach Gammastrahlung sucht, die erzeugt wird, wenn sich die geladenen Teilchen mit hoher Geschwindigkeit durch die Erdatmosphäre bewegen.
