Description: Una variación cíclica de aproximadamente 11 años en el número de manchas solares que se forman en el Sol, que se corresponde con una variación en la actividad solar. Un nuevo ciclo de manchas solares comienza tras un período de mínimo solar, cuando el Sol presenta pocas o ninguna mancha solar. Al comienzo de un nuevo ciclo de manchas solares, estas se forman en latitudes de unos +/- 30 grados (norte o sur) con respecto al ecuador solar. A medida que el ciclo avanza, se forman nuevas manchas solares en latitudes más cercanas al ecuador solar. Al cabo de un tiempo, el número de manchas solares que se forman disminuye a medida que el ciclo pasa del máximo solar al mínimo solar, lo que indica el final del ciclo.
