Description: Uma variação cíclica de aproximadamente 11 anos no número de manchas solares que se formam no Sol, correspondendo a uma variação na atividade solar. Um novo ciclo de manchas solares começa após um período de mínimo solar, quando o Sol tem poucas ou nenhuma mancha solar. No início de um novo ciclo de manchas solares, as manchas solares se formam em latitudes em torno de +/- 30 graus (norte ou sul) do equador do Sol. À medida que o ciclo continua, novas manchas solares se formam nas latitudes mais próximas do equador solar. Depois de algum tempo, o número de manchas solares que se formam diminui à medida que o ciclo passa do máximo solar para o mínimo solar, o que indica o fim do ciclo.
