Glossary term: Ammasso di galassie
Description: Un ammasso di galassie è un gruppo fisico di galassie legate gravitazionalmente. Gli ammassi di galassie possono variare in dimensioni e concentrazione, contenendo da centinaia a migliaia di galassie. L'ammasso della Vergine, che è l'ammasso di galassie più vicino, è un esempio di grande ammasso contenente migliaia di galassie. Oltre alle galassie, gli ammassi contengono anche plasma e grandi quantità di materia oscura.
