Glossary term: Pianeta nano
Description: Un pianeta nano è un corpo celeste con le seguenti proprietà: orbita intorno al Sole, ha una massa sufficiente per assumere una forma semisferica, non ha ripulito il suo percorso lungo l'orbita dal materiale presente e non è una luna. I pianeti nani tendono a orbitare in regioni composte da corpi simili, come nel caso della fascia degli asteroidi e della fascia di Kuiper. In generale, i pianeti nani sono più piccoli di Mercurio, di struttura rocciosa e ricoperta di ghiaccio. La quantità di ghiaccio rispetto alle rocce dipende dalla loro posizione nel Sistema solare. Plutone è il pianeta nano più famoso.
