Glossary term: Telescopio a riflessione
Description: In un telescopio a riflessione o telescopio a specchio, l'elemento ottico principale è uno specchio, lo "specchio primario", che raccoglie la luce. I telescopi a specchio sono spesso caratterizzati dal diametro dello specchio primario, che va dai dieci centimetri per i telescopi amatoriali più piccoli agli otto metri per gli specchi monolitici più grandi utilizzati nei telescopi professionali. Aree di raccolta ancora più grandi possono essere ottenute combinando diversi segmenti di specchio, che agiscono in modo simile a quello di uno specchio monolitico più grande. Esistono diversi tipi di telescopi a specchio. Ad esempio, in un telescopio newtoniano, la luce proveniente dallo specchio primario viene riflessa lateralmente da uno specchio più piccolo e piatto in un oculare o in una fotocamera. In un telescopio Cassegrain, uno specchio secondario più piccolo riflette la luce attraverso un'apertura nello specchio primario.
