Glossary term: Nucleo della cometa
Description: Il nucleo di una cometa è il suo centro. Si tratta di un oggetto solido, simile a una palla di neve sporca, composto da ghiaccio e particelle rocciose e polverose. Lontano dal Sole, il nucleo è l'unico componente della cometa. Più vicino al Sole, il nucleo di una cometa si riscalda a causa della luce solare, provocando la sublimazione del ghiaccio superficiale e dei grani di polvere incorporati, che vengono quindi espulsi dal nucleo, che viene poi circondato da una chioma con una coda che punta lontano dal Sole.
