Description: População estelar é um termo usado para designar um grupo de estrelas. De forma mais geral, uma população estelar é qualquer conjunto de estrelas, por exemplo, a população estelar de uma galáxia.

Mais especificamente, esse termo é frequentemente utilizado para se referir a diferentes populações de estrelas que compõem um aglomerado estelar ou uma galáxia. Essas populações podem ter idades ou metalicidades distintas e podem ter origens diferentes.

As estrelas da Via Láctea são frequentemente divididas em estrelas de População I (as estrelas mais jovens do disco galáctico, com maior metalicidade) e estrelas de População II (as estrelas mais antigas do halo galáctico, com menor metalicidade). As estrelas da População III constituem uma população teórica de estrelas com metalicidade muito baixa. Acredita-se que as estrelas da População III representem a primeira geração de estrelas que se formou após o Big Bang.
